How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Legal Practice and Data Management at KKMP

The American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham) held its inaugural AmCham TECH conference on September 30, 2025, dedicated to current issues in the development of digital technologies. The event aimed to bring together IT specialists and business representatives to discuss global trends such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity.

KKMP Partner Anna Maximenko and IT Director Sergey Polyanin attended the conference. They spoke about how the KKMP.Tech team is actively exploring and implementing innovations. Specifically, they highlighted two key areas of AI application impacting the shaping of legal practice: AI usage by lawyers and AI usage by lawyers’ clients. Utilizing AI by lawyers requires work on prompting, playbooks, and addressing confidentiality concerns. At this stage, AI’s application is essentially limited due to its “hallucinations.” AI usage by businesses requires a new focus both in legal due diligence and in legal documentation.

In addition to implementing AI, the KKMP.Tech team is working on other technological solutions. Sergey spoke about KKMP.Tech’s first product – FileHunter, which enables instant and yet flexible search across vast amounts of documents. Furthermore, Sergey discussed the development of an EDMS (Enterprise Document Management System) that will provide centralized management of all company documents.

The year 2023 was marked by an intensification of sanctions pressure against Russia. According to some estimates, the number of personal sanctions imposed on Russian companies and individuals (“blocking sanctions”) alone is now approaching 20,000. Many countries have also started to develop legal mechanisms aimed at countering the sanctions circumvention. It is not easy to navigate such a large-scale and multifaceted sanctions regime and keep up with the details of how the sanctions are applied in practice. In this review, we present what we consider to be the key developments in the area of sanctions and their application in 2023, in the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, as well as likely trends in this area in 2024, which should be taken into account when doing business.
