On March 14, Pravo.ru conference Legal Challenges and Opportunities in the Era of Post-Sanctions and Counter-Sanctions took place. KKMP Senior Associate Elvira Khasanova spoke at the session Turning the Tide: Prospects for Business Development in the Post-Sanctions Period presenting a report on the U.S. Sanctions Against the Russian Energy Sector. What Consequences To Expect?

As explained by Elvira, the Russian energy sector has always been a target of U.S. sanctions. She also discussed the difficulties brought about by the latest changes in U.S. sanctions against the energy sector in January 2025. At the end of her report, Elvira highlighted possible directions for the development of regulation in this area, both in the event of easing and tightening of sanctions.

The Bank of Russia, in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance, has published Recommendations on the development of long-term equity-based incentive programs for members of the executive bodies and other key employees of public joint-stock companies whose shares are admitted to organized trading, as well as joint-stock companies planning a public offering of their shares, (“Program”) with the aim of increasing their shareholder value (“Recommendations”). The document is part of a broader agenda to increase the market capitalization of the Russian stock market and develop equity-based management incentives. The Recommendations are not mandatory, but they effectively set a “best practice” standard for public companies.
