Anna Maximenko and Chuck Peng participate in the BRICS+ New Economy Legal Forum
On October 18, BRICS+ New Economy Legal Forum took place bringing together more than 300 participants from 20 countries.

KKMP Partner Anna Maximenko moderated the session Digital Platforms, Creative Industries – New Oil. Development and Harmonization of IP and Personal Data Protection in BRICS+ countries. The speakers of the session included directors of legal and marketing departments and heads of such companies as Gazprom-Media Holding, VK PLAY, Central Partnership, Skolkovo, Yandex GO and others.

 

The experts discussed various issues of international cooperation in content creation and distribution, development of the video games market in the BRICS countries, creative strategies of the BRICS countries and current legal issues relating to the operation of digital platforms in the markets of the participating countries.

The Head of KKPM China Desk Chuck Peng spoke at the session Foreign Economic Activity: Finding a Balance within BRICS+. Intensification of Trade and Investment – Harmonization of Regulation of Participating Countries together with Tatiana Kim (Bakalchuk), founder of RUSS-Wildberries, leading practicing lawyers and executives of various companies, including Nornickel, Moscow Exchange, the Union of Grain Exporters and United Breweries.

 

Chuck delivered his report on Russian-Chinese Payments: Obstacles and New Hopes, giving an overview of how Chinese banks verify payments from Russia and what problems arise. In addition, Chuck highlighted three strategies for making payments from Russia to China and how to set up a Chinese subsidiary through “variable interest entity” control agreements to implement these strategies. Chuck also provided a list of regional Chinese banks that are still open to Russian payments.
