A team of KKMP lawyers represented Sber Group in the acquisition of a 41.9% stake in PJSC Element, a leading domestic manufacturer of microelectronics and semiconductors. Sistema PJSC Group, which owned 37.6% of the shares, withdrew completely. Also, 4.3% of shares were acquired from minority shareholders. The transaction amounted to RUB 27 billion. The transaction was successfully completed.

The Novosibirsk-based car dealership network "Autocity" (Autocity LLC) has announced a default on digital financial assets (DFAs) totaling 200 million rubles. This default is the first in Russia on such financial instruments.
On June 10, the Moscow Exchange has launched the calculation and publication of a Bitcoin index. It is calculated once a day – at 12:30 Moscow time. The calculation includes data on perpetual futures and swaps for the BTC/USDT pair from the following crypto exchanges: Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Bitget. The calculation is based on the weighted average price, taking into account trading volumes on each platform. The Moscow Exchange reports that the weighting coefficients will be reviewed quarterly.

There is no unified regulation for investment protection in BRICS countries, instead, bilateral and multilateral investment treaties (BITs) between BRICS member states are utilized. These agreements provide standard mechanisms, but with specific features and exceptions that investors must consider. The Bill sets forth the procedure for taxation of digital currency transactions.

In December 2022, certain European bar associations and lawyers, specifically, The Netherlands Bar of Brussels (Ordre néerlandais des avocats du barreau de Bruxelles) (Case No. T-797/22), The Bar Association of the Court of Paris (Ordre des avocats à la cour de Paris) (Case No. T-798/22) and ACE-Avocats (Case No. T-828/22) filed their claims with the General Court of the EU (“EU Court”) contending that the Court should repeal the prohibition on provision of legal advisory services imposed by “sectoral” Council Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 (“Regulation 833/2014”) as part of the 8th package of sanctions. On 2 October 2024, the EU Court decided to uphold the prohibition making a few important conclusions that we include below.

It is not easy to navigate such a large-scale and multifaceted sanctions regime and keep up with the details of how the sanctions are applied in practice. In this review, we present what we consider to be the key developments in the area of sanctions and their application in 2023, in the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom, as well as likely trends in this area in 2024, which should be taken into account when doing business.
