On June 3, KKMP Partner Anna Maksimenko and KKMP Counsel Ekaterina Sharapova will speak at the Eurasian Pro Bono Week during the session titled “Pro Bono for Civil Society: Building Partnerships Between Civil Society Organizations and Law Firms in Eurasia.”
The main goal of the event is to bring together everyone involved in the development of pro bono work: from practicing lawyers and students to NGOs, bar associations, and the academic community.
Anna and Ekaterina will discuss the topic “Pro bono practice through the eyes of law firms – an open discussion.” During the session, attendees will learn how to establish effective processes for receiving and providing legal assistance, and will see real-life examples of how pro bono consulting strengthens the work of both charitable foundations and the legal teams providing such services.
Anna will discuss what pro bono work means to KKMP, the directions the firm has chosen for the development of this area and why, what motivates lawyers with consistently heavy caseloads to engage in pro bono work, and how this activity transforms the team and takes it to a new level.
Ekaterina will share details about KKMP’s pro bono project, “Course of Good,” which we wrote about last week. We’ll explain how the project brought together a team of the firm’s specialists from the regulatory, commercial, pharmaceutical, and IP practices to help establish a center of excellence for early diagnosis and fetal surgery in the Far East. We’ll share how this project inspired us, why it became so personal for our team, how much effort it required, and what results it yielded.
